information books about the amazon rainforest

Amazon Rainforest All the Way Down series by Alex Woolf and Isobel Lundie
A really excellent book that explores all the levels of the Amazon Rainforest –from the tree canopy down to the forest floor – with lots of illustrations and bite size facts about the plants and animals. Also covers deforestation, pollution and climate change.

Amazon DK Eyewitness
We have a few of these DK FindOut books at home but often get them from the library for specific topics – they are packed with information and lots of photographs. This one goes

In the Rainforest Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2 by Kate Duke
Full of scientific rainforest facts but very accessible – not specifically Amazon rainforest but definitely recommend.

The Rainforest Book Conservation for Kids by Charlotte Milner
Lovely illustrations, fairly simple language but tons of facts – covers animals, plants, deforestation and more. Not specifically Amazon focused but a great book to add to your collection.

Stories from the Amazon by Saviour Pirotta
An illustrated collection of folktales and stories with information about the indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest.

Rainforests National Geographic Kids by Andrea Silen
Not specifically Amazon focused but lots of great rainforest facts and photos and a good early independent reader book.
fictional books about the amazon rainforest

The Explorer Katherine Rundell
An Amazon adventure story about a group of children that get stranded in the rainforest and have to find their way home. We found this a real page-turner, a brilliant story with plenty of facts. We loved this as a read aloud book but it would be great for older independent readers too.

Adventure in the Amazon
Magic Tree House, Book 6
We like this series as early reader chapter books or as quick family read alouds. This book is about two children who are transported to the Amazon rainforest via their magic treehouse where they meet lots of animals – some friendly and some not! Lots of facts along the way. There’s also a graphic novel version of this book and a non-fiction fact tracker book too.
